The Things We Did OK

My thought process this morning:
1. Wake up. Excitement, need to send in event entries today!
2. But that clinic...maybe we aren't cut out for this and I'm being stupid to keep trying. I'll be that person and look like an idiot. Also, lots of money to spend if it might not be fun...
3. Considering quitting feels really freeing and really good. But then hugely disappointing. I still want to do this, but does Bridget?
4. Am I a bad owner? Would I recognize if she hates it?
4b. What does she even like? She doesn't get excited about much...but jumping, yes I think most days she likes it.
5. Madly google event closing date.
6. Ughh....need to make up mind soon.
7. Maybe there are pictures somewhere of the previous years courses?
8. Bingo!

So, I bring you pictures, courtesy of CourseWalk.com, of some of the stuff we jumped last week:

Trot out, turn around and drop back in.
This one was uphill heading home and rode so nicely
Met with skepticism, but jumped it every time presented

Keeping it real, the house that made me cry
No big deal
Ditch and baby log pile
9. And, drumroll please, the Starter course walk looked pretty much like this:

Times twelve.

10. OK, let's give it a go. We won't know unless we try ☺

  1. Good for you! It pisses me off that that person destroyed your confidence.

    1. True. But I let it happen. It was someone I know and previously had a lot of respect for, that's the issue that for me made it a lot harder to speak up. A learning experience, but not the one I'd hoped for! However, I am more resilient than I first appear :)

    1. It's the beginner, super easiest course out there. I'm crossing my fingers it will be a productive step backward so we can leap forward later ;)

  3. Good for you! Glad you didn't let that negative clinician win ;) I can't wait to hear about how amazing it is!

    1. She's kind of winning because I wanted to do the equivalent to beginner novice and this is...not that. Also I am legit worried about it now. But yes, I think even if's not fun, we will feel better for trying :)

  4. Go for it! We did the same thing today (dropped down to a baby course) and while it was NOT pretty and we had difficulty over some stupidly small fences, it was a good schooling and opportunity to re-teach my pony his job out there. I'm still waffling back and forth about continuing on with eventing too, but I do love it, and my pony IS good at it when his head's in the right place... so we will do baby XC until it's easy again!

    1. Once again, so happy to not be alone in this - I swear our ponies are secret twins. You've totally got this :)

    1. I'm just going to go and have fun...even if that requires a few margaritas :)

  6. There is absolutely no shame in dropping down to build confidence (both your and Bridget's)! You are making the right call. Nothing is worse than being unsure, doing the more difficult level and then having a train wreck. Much better to do a level you feel you can be successful at. At the end, if you wished you'd done the higher level than you know you will be able to move back up. Plus it's always a bonus to be able to make your horse walk over everything if they decide they don't want to play.

    1. Exactly. If B wakes up in a bad mood or I freeze up it matters not...we can walk over most of the course if we have to!

  7. Good for you for going for it!

  8. Trust me - quitting is definitely more disappointing than freeing. I'm a couple posts behind I think but that course looks awesome and I have zero doubts that you and smidge can rock the crap out of it!! House or no house!!

    1. I think we're just going to go have fun. I'm going to do my best to not get too wrapped up in it. But yeah, if there's a house we're going over or through, no stops! :)
